Letter from the Principal
Welcome to the Brayton School Web Page. Here you will find important links to the many details and events that are part of the school’s daily operation, as well as examples of student work and accomplishments.
Brayton School, located at 20 Barbour St., is a unique learning community that is comprised of approximately 370 students in grades Pre-K through 5th grade. It is also home to the district’s ELE Center, LINCS Parent Center and Magic Seasons After-school Day Care. As an educational community, it is dedicated to providing the optimum learning experience for your child in a safe, nurturing environment.
As parents and guardians, you are an important part of the collaborative effort in helping your child succeed. I encourage you to take an active role by participating in school functions and events, attending Open House and Parent Conferences and getting to know your child’s teacher. Working together strengthens the home-school connection and promotes a positive experience for students.
Brayton School was a beehive of activity during the summer months. With over 100 students registered, the 21st Century Program offered educational, fun activities over a 5 week period. Students enrolled in Science Camp participated in topics including water, architecture, chemistry and the natural world. Each week brought on a new round of motivating, hands on science projects that spilled out of the classroom into the hallways and beyond. Kinder Camp provided a taste of kindergarten to transitioning pre-K students. The laughter, chatter and enthusiasm of students, teachers and parents gave testimony to the success of this endeavor.
During the 2007-2008 academic year, we will continue to address reading, writing and math initiatives. Our district is very fortunate to be working with Dr. Mahesh Sharma, a leading educator and math instructor. Many teachers spent a week studying with him during the summer break to be able to transform math instruction in their classrooms. Our Collins Writing Across the Curriculum will continue. Bill Atwood will once again visit schools to model and work closely with teachers to strengthen their knowledge of the program. Reading First initiatives that have been in place for the past 4 years continue to be implemented. This program has increased reading achievement in our district since its implementation.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you have. I look forward to working with you to ensure success for your child.Sincerely,
Linda M. Reardon
